Attendee’s – Keith, Tretty,
Evesy, Goff, Ben, Lofty,Smothy, Hammy, Daz and Ginge
Another early start for the Yarmouth
Yellows for this epic journey as we were catching the 06:00 train
from Norwich. I arrived at the station at around 05:40 shortly
followed by Hammy. The BDC were already at the station as were a
few other hardy souls. About 05:55 the rest of the contingent
pitched up at the station and we quickly got down the platform and
made the train. Keith was looking a tad under the weather and that
was an understatement. He went out for a meal and had a dodgy
skate dish which left him looking and feeling like death warmed
up. Good effort though mate most people would of sacked the trip
and stayed at home. The train set off and Lofty opened the bar at
06:05 which was a little later than normal but acceptable in the
circumstances. Sausage and bacon rolls were supplied by Tretty and
there were sausage rolls and sandwiches supplied by Hammy. The BDC
were really fortunate as whilst we were having lager with our
breakfast National Express had just had a delivery of fruit juices
so they were sorted. We then hit the first problem. Someone
overnight had decided it would be a good idea to nick all the
cabling from the signals near Marks Tay which meant our 2hr train
journey ended up being 31/2 hours. Once we arrived in London we
caught taxis and made our way to Waterloo Station where we met up
with Ginge and Baghdad Bob who were waiting in the pub. We had a
couple of drinks here and I had a Malibu and Milk - Mmmmm!!!. Just
before we left we were approached by a lad from another table who
enquired what team we were. Him and his mates who were Leeds had
put bets on to what team we followed. No-one guessed we were City
which surprised him, the money went into the drinks pot so they
all won really. We then boarded out train which was rammed and we
ended up sitting in some compartment between carriages. Keith
spent most of his time in the bog. On arrival at Yeovil Junction
we enquired about getting to the ground. We had to catch taxis
because the ground is absolutely miles away from the station. We
got dropped off in town and went into a pub where we all had a
carvery, met Daz Brown and had a few drinks. We then made our way
to another pub where we had a few photos taken with the flags. It
was then we needed another taxi journey to get to the ground. From
the Train Station to the ground cost about £23 in taxi fares. I’ve
never known a ground to be so far away from the town. |

Our end was terracing which I loved.
It was like the old 80s games all over again. Ginge was in his
element and didn’t know what to do or where to stand next. We hung
up the two flags with “SNAKEPIT” and “YARMOUTH YELLOWS” proudly
displayed behind the goal.
The first half was really dismal and
we deserved to be behind. Yeovil were the first to every ball and
every 50 50 seemed to fall to one of their players. Ginge at half
time had a bit of banter with one of the stewards which was
typical Ginge. Second half came and we stormed into a 2 – 1 lead.
When we scored we were jumping about pushing each other just like
the old days. Yeovil came back and scored their 3rd
goal in the 91st minute. We were gutted and it seemed
like a long journey was going to be spoilt. However we stormed
back and managed to score to equalise in the 94th
minute. Cue loads of celebrations. The Ginger Pele came to the
front of the stand and we all piled forward. Some geezer fell over
in front of the crowd and he just got stood all over as we
celebrated. (just realised from a post on the Forum this was
actually Jim CBS. Sorry mate but I couldn’t stop to help you I was
too busy celebrating) For us it felt like a win and for Yeovil I’m
sure it felt like a loss. I think these feelings sum up why we go
to Footy. To be honest we didn’t deserve any more from the game
but who cares it was a great finish. A few seasons ago we would of
caved in and accepted defeat but not any more, the attitude is
spot on. |

At the end we all moved off to a pub
which was near to ADSA’s which was a mega walk. Me, Tretty and
Lofty went into ASDA’s to stock up on drink for the journey home.
Gin and Tonic, Lagers, JD and Coke, Sherry and glasses with mince
pies were all purchased. When we came out we commandeered a taxi
from the petrol station and made our way to the Train Station. The
others were contacted and they got hold of a taxi which was not
destined for them but they got it anyway. By all accounts the
manager of the taxi firm was not impressed but…..whatever…. We all
pitched up on the train ready for the journey back to Waterloo. We
swapped stories from the old days and Ginge kept us entertained
with his accounts of matches from the 80s. I was lucky because I
remembered quite a bit from his accounts and was at some of them.
I know the others found them really entertaining and it made the
journey a classic. Ginge made a schoolboy error by leaving his
mobile on the table when he went to the bog. Cue a text to his
brother saying he loved him. Luckily he came back quick of the
rest of his phone book would of received the same. By the way as
we were sitting on the train we saw Neil Adams and Chris Goreham
from Radio Norfolk get on the train. Ginge again came up with the
idea that we should take the opportunity to get a photo with them.
Off we went down the other end of the train and fair play to them
both they were really accommodating. Thanks to you both for that
it was well appreciated. When we arrived at Clapham Junction the
CBS geezers left the train. We suddenly thought it was all coming
on top until we realised we were being pelted by sausage rolls,
crisps and peanuts. They obviously waited until they could leave
the train before taking on the mighty Yarmouth Yellows. Good
effort boys it was really funny. In our time boys it was 2p pieces
LOL. By the time we had arrived at Waterloo we had polished off
all the drink and we then had another taxi journey back to
Liverpool Street. We said our goodbyes to Ginge who had to go to
another station to get home. By this time we had missed the 21:30
so we had to pitch up in a pub for another couple before getting
the 22:30. Tretty and Smothy went to Kentucky Fried Chicken and
bought a super huge massively big bargain bucket out of the kitty
for the return home. Lofty and Ben still bought some lager while
the rest of us were happy with some soft drinks as we were on the
downward slope. Some fell asleep Hammy went into a coma while the
rest chatted amongst them selves. On arrival back at Norwich it
was 00:30 so had been a long day. This was a 22 hour epic for some
it was a great laugh and was really pleased I went on this one.
Thanks to everyone for making it one to remember and may there be
many more.
See you on the next one boys
Evesy OTBC CTID.
