There is something about a midweek evening away game. I really enjoy these even more than a Saturday. I was picked up from Norwich at 2 pm and after a quick detour to the ground to pick up Keith’s ticket we were on our way. As we got onto the A12 we were making good progress until we hit major traffic. As quick as a flash Keith Keith pulled off the road and after a detour through some villages and Colchester we ended up back on the A12 having missed the problems. We held our monthly meeting on the mini bus and it was good to welcome new members Ben and Bunny….. A few trips were organised and Tretty did a great job as stand in chairman as Keith was driving and we thought it would be safer if he concentrated on that. It was then more or less plain sailing into Southend apart from the odd hold up.

Once parked up we made our way to the Slug and Lettuce to have a couple of pints before moving off to the Bar Victoria. Dom joined us at this stage as he just happened by complete coincidence!!!!! to be working in Southend. We then stayed in Bar Victoria until we made our way to the ground. Before we got in the ground me, Bunny and Tungy decided to buy a Horse burger which meant we missed the first 10 minutes.

Me, Bunny, Tungy, Glen and Tim stood down the front of the terrace whilst the others disappeared into another part. It was a great turnout of over 2000 city fans. Tim was being his usual self by grabbing hold of people at every opportunity. The funniest thing was when he tried it once to often on the uneven terrace and ended up crashing and burning in a heap on the floor cutting his knee in the process. The first half was not much to shout about but was kept entertained by a drum being banged all the way through by the Southend fans. The second half was a lot better especially after the first goal. It was great to jump about like a whirling dervish giving it large. We did this another couple of times coming out winners 3 – 0. Even at this stage I think we are nervous when we go in front. For so many seasons now we have been used to losing and in the back of our minds we think we are just going to throw the games away.

Anyway the game ended and we made our way to the mini bus. Keith seeing the traffic building up went round loads of back streets and missed all the traffic getting us on the way home in front of club cabbage. Bunny was the first to fall asleep followed by the inevitable Goff. We had a bit of a sing song with the MP3 then Tungy and Tim hit the sack. We stopped at Scum Scum Scum on the way back to get some grub from Tesco’s. Tretty bought some cans of JD and coke and kindly bought me a Pimms and Lemonade. On the road again passing round the twiglets and doughnuts to replenish and Glen bought some cheesy bits which Tim spilt all over himself. It was then straight up the A140 home arriving in Norwich just after midnight. Thanks for another great day out boys I loved this one. What a difference it makes coming home from an away trip having won. I can get used to this. Cant wait for Yeovil.
